The Happy Way

We walk in as guests first.

Before a single light goes up, we knock, we say hello and we get to know the people whose story we are about to tell. Here is what a shoot day with Happy Productions feels like from your side of the door.

WELCOMEHi! I’m yourstoryteller.

Before the shoot

First, we find the right person to knock.

Happy Productions is an ethically trained collective of filmmakers who give their time pro bono or at a discount to causes they care about. So we never send whoever is free. We match you with a storyteller who already cares about your cause.

Shoot day

Eight moments. One promise.

Scroll through the day with your storyteller.

01

Knock, knock.

Your storyteller rings the bell and introduces themselves before a single case comes out of the car.

Why it matters: you meet a person, not a production.
02

We scout before we set up.

They walk the space with you, choose where the equipment will sit and where we will film, and ask what is off limits.

Why it matters: nothing moves without you knowing.
03

Hello before action.

Your storyteller takes time to meet the people in the story and get to know them a little, with the camera off.

Why it matters: people open up to someone they have met, not to a lens.
04

Pads down first.

Furniture pads go down over your floors before any tripod, light or case touches them.

Why it matters: your space stays exactly the way you love it.
05

Eye to eye.

Interviews are filmed straight into the lens, with the interviewer sitting right behind the camera.

Why it matters: it feels like a conversation, and on screen it feels like they are talking to your donor.
06

The question.

Every interview ends with the question we have asked people all over the world: are you happy?

Why it matters: it is where the most honest moments come from.
07

Consent, in writing.

Everyone on camera signs a release before we pack up.

Why it matters: their story is told with their permission.
08

We leave it how we found it.

Pads up, cables out, furniture back where it was. Your raw footage lands in a shared folder your organization owns.

Why it matters: the only thing we leave behind is a story.
Before we knock

We show up already knowing your story.

Before anyone arrives, our producer writes a brief for the day and hand-picks a visual reference: a film or a scene that shows your storyteller the look we are going for. So when the door opens, we are ready to listen.
